Appliance Testing NZ Ltd sends its specialist staff to your site to test your electrical equipment with minimum disruption, and at minimum cost. We even offer testing outside of normal work hours so that there is no disruption to your business activities.

Our qualified staff carry out all aspects of testing and use the latest 3760 testers to meet NZ Standard AS/NZS 3760:2003. These make us more efficient than our competitors and therefore able to match any price for an equivalent level of service.

Portable appliance testing (PAT) carried out by Appliance Testing will take less time, causing you and your staff the minimum amount of disruption. Out of hours testing is also an option we offer our clients to further minimize disruption.

Testing Procedure PDF Print E-mail

Client Liaison:

The Appliance Testing engineer will meet with the on-site Health & Safety representative and will liaise with the representative carry out testing of all equipment on the site.

Guidelines for Testing:

Testing will be carried out under standard AS/NZS 3760 Code of Practice for in-service inspection and testing.

Inspection

Flex the flex will be inspected for any damage, ensuring it is free from cuts, fraying or stress
Appliance the appliance will be inspected to ensure that it is in good working order, including ensuring that it switches on and off properly and that the casing or cabinet has no damage that could result in access to live parts.

Testing

  1. Polarity Test (only carried out on extension cables and supply leads)
  2. Earth continuity test (except for Class II appliances that have no earth)
  3. Insulation resistance test
  4. Earth leakage test (if operational test carried out)
  5. Tests on computer equipment are "soft tests" of 200mA on earth continuity.

Labelling

  1. A personalized label will be attached to each appliance with the barcode ID and test date.
  2. Appliances that fail will be labelled with a Do not use tag and the appropriate staff member will be notified.
  3. We have several types of tags to suit different work environments. A large, hard-wearing, industrial Tuff Tag would not be appropriate in a hotel room.

Documentation

Appliance Register A complete register of all equipment tested on the premises will be sent after testing. Appliances that fail will be recorded on the register, and a detailed reason for the failure will be given
Report a detailed report of the testing will be supplied. It will include the number of appliances tested, the number of failed items and the recommended re-test dates
Display Certificate A Certificate for display in the staff room, noticeboard or reception to advise that the appliances on the premises have been tested for electrical safety
